What ClipSnap Stores

All data is stored locally in your browser profile via chrome.storage. Optionally, you can enable Chrome Sync to replicate your data across your own signed-in Chrome profiles. When enabled, data is synchronized using Chrome’s infrastructure and Google’s policies. We do not have access to your synced data.

• Saved clips: content text, source URL, page title, favicon URL (if available), saved timestamp
• Settings: preferences such as notifications, keyboard shortcuts, export format, maximum clips

Navigation to Source Text

When you open a clip’s source page, ClipSnap builds a URL using the open Text Fragments standard (#:~:text=...) to let the browser scroll to and highlight the text. No scripts are injected for this feature; navigation relies entirely on your browser’s native support.

What ClipSnap Does Not Do

• No external analytics, tracking beacons, usage telemetry, or fingerprinting
• No collection of personal information
• No transmission of your clips or settings to any third-party servers

Optional Chrome Sync

If you enable Cloud Sync in settings, ClipSnap saves your clips to chrome.storage.sync in addition to local storage. Sync is provided by Chrome and subject to quota limits. If sync fails (e.g., quota exceeded or offline), ClipSnap falls back to local storage. You can disable sync at any time in settings.

Permissions

• contextMenus: to provide the “Clip to ClipSnap” right‑click action
• storage: to store your clips and preferences locally (and optionally in Chrome Sync)
• downloads: to export your data to files when you explicitly choose to
• alarms: to manage brief UI feedback timers
• notifications: to show optional confirmation notifications
• activeTab: to access the current tab’s title/URL and read selected text you chose to clip via the context menu or popup

ClipSnap never runs on or exfiltrates content from pages unless you explicitly perform a clipping action. We do not request broad host access; actions operate on the currently active tab. On restricted pages (e.g., browser settings), ClipSnap gracefully degrades. If a future version introduces additional highlighting capabilities, it will be opt‑in and clearly disclosed.

Data Retention and Control

• You control your data. You can delete individual clips or “Delete All” from the popup.
• You can export your data at any time as TXT, Markdown, or JSON.
• If you uninstall the extension, your locally stored data will be removed by the browser once the profile data is cleared. Synced data (if enabled) is governed by Chrome’s sync settings.

Security

All processing happens locally in the extension context. We follow the Chrome Extensions MV3 model with a service worker and a strict Content Security Policy. Remote network access is not used by ClipSnap.

Children’s Privacy

ClipSnap does not target or knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this document to reflect product changes or legal requirements. The latest version will always be published with the extension and on our listing.
